Amii was supposed to return Amii as an international pop star, and RCA teamed her with super producers Giorgio Moroder and Bolland & Bolland to provide her with a hit album. It looked like a winning formula but it wasn't. With side 1 produced by Moroder, and side 2 by Bolland & Bolland, the album never felt homogenic. There are several good songs on the album, "Time Is Tight", "Lover to Lover" and "Break These Chains" in particular which could easily have done better, if the whole thing hadn't been generic 80s pop without the soul element of her previous releases. Instead, a cover of Yvonne Fair's "Love Ain't no Toy" was chosen for a single which tried hard to be hip R&B but didn't really feel right and duly failed to give Amii the hit she deserved. I was lucky to get in touch with Amii some years ago when she told me that she hadn't felt too good about this album either and had promised herself to only do things she felt 100% for. And there were several magnificent albums ahead ... Amii, however, was unfortunately a hit-and-miss.
